Piano lessons in Weston-super-Mare with a patient, experienced and understanding teacher.
Would you like to learn a new skill, refresh your knowledge or start your child on a musical journey? Discover the language of music: learn to read notes on the stave, understand time signatures and rhythms, the meaning of musical terms, and discover the great composers and their styles. You may like to sit grade exams or enter local arts festivals (entirely optional!): many students have had considerable success in the past and some have gone on to study music in higher education and now have careers in music themselves.
The piano is an amazing instrument! With its huge range it is like an entire orchestra! You can play melody and accompaniment (top, middle and bass), combine several melodies and rhythms, play chords (dramatic or prayer-like), and use the pedals to sustain, link and colour the music. Pianoforte! (soft-loud): as its full name suggests, it can produce different dynamic levels - a whisper, a warm richness, or a stormy grandeur. The varied dynamics allow you to balance different lines of music and even colour a particular note within a chord.
Learning an instrument is a journey and does take time and commitment. But it can teach patience, resilience and determination; and can give great fulfilment and enjoyment.
Children (from age 6 or 7) and adults welcome. You will, of course, need to have an instrument at home. Piano accompaniment for exams and festivals also available on an individual basis. Phone Katie on 07940892635 or 01934 624564 or email kjpurnell@mail.com. EPTA member. DBS certificate.
